WHAT IS

RACING?

“WE TURN CARS FROM SIMPLE TOOLS INTO A WAY OF LIFE”

Momo Racing is dedicated to car enthusiasts. Their target audience are those who modify their car for both aesthetics and performance to match their personal needs.

As a result, I wanted my wheel design to appeal to the project car enthusiast and create a design that would appeal on a variety of commonly modified cars.

 Visual Research

In my visual research, I looked at a variety of different wheels, including Momo’s Heritage 6, Watanabe, Fuchs, and Rally racing wheels.

Cars I looked at included Miatas, E36 M3, and 80’s 911s.

Ideation

Initial Ideation

I wanted the wheel to be geometrics with a fairly simple spoke shape. I started with wheels A, B, and C as general ideas on where to start and iterated from there.

After consulting with car enthusiasts and Aston, the designer from Momo that worked with us, I narrowed the design to three simple designs that I would follow through to the CAD phase with.

CAD Exploration

I moved through several iterations of CAD as I refined the spokes and dimensionality of the wheel. I eventually settled on a design featuring a mostly flat center hub that’s is sunken inwards.

This design allows for the Momo logo to fit both on the venter cap and radially along the center hub.
