Re-Pack 48 Hour Competition
In a team of 3, we were given a design prompt researched, ideated, prototyped, and promoted a packaging design.
Our team placed 1st overall and was awarded $3,000.
The Prompt
The 48 Hour Repack Design Competition is hosted by the Institute of Packaging Professionals Southeastern Chapter. My team composed of myself and two other design students were tasked with creating a sustainable, environmentally friendly drink carrier.
On the project, I worked on the various prototypes and created the promotional video.
Ideation
We explored a variety of manufacturing methods and physical form concepts. Eventually, we settled on a thermoformed paper fiber technique that was environmentally less impactful than the standard plastic rings.
Prototypes
The paper pulp mold would essentially hold each can in via friction, making for easy carrying and removal of drinks. However, for prototyping purposes and a shortage on time and proper resources, we made this via vacuum formed plastic and a hand made mold.
The plastic was then spray painted for a fiber-like texture.

Branding and Assembly
After making the main part of the carrier, we created a custom, brandable top made of recycled paperboard.
The final carrier allows for cans to be removed and re-added at will, allowing users to carry around their trash and reuse the carrier for later use.
